Elementary 6th grade Band Podcasts and lesson plan ideas
Liz Fritz
Elizabeth Fritz is currently in her 25th year of teaching, with 23 of those years spent as part of the successful band program in the Decorah Community Schools where she is the woodwind specialist. Elizabeth Fritz is very involved with several committee projects within the Iowa Bandmasters Association, including the Iowa Comprehensive Music Project and the Music Mentors of Iowa, which she chairs. She is past president of the Northeast Iowa Bandmasters Association and the current president of the Iowa Bandmasters 2009/2010. In 2006, she received her National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards in music for early adolescence through young adulthood.

Creating a Virtual Concert
Ensemble Unit - January through March
This unit will have three components:
Webquest on composers - with ensemble group
Performance of ensemble to create iMovie or podcast - with ensemble group
SmartMusic activity on intonation - completed with a partner during class.
You will find the instructions linked to each area. All groups will be given time during class to complete the ensemble unit.
The goals of the unit include:
4 practice rooms with garageband setups3/4 of the kids play in full group while small groups are in practice rooms recordingRooms have windows for supervision

Evaluation of this activity will include rubrics, performance evaluation and self evaluation. This activity will be graded on a pass/fail basis. If you participate and do your best you will pass!Have fun and enjoy!
